Free things to do while visiting Oahu

HULA SHOW

1. Watch a hula show at Kuhio beach . A few times week you can catch Hawaiian performers at their free show near the Duke Kahanamoku statue in Waikiki. Torches are lit, a conch shell blows at the start of the show, and Hula is performed. After the show why not take a stroll along the beach and enjoy the beautiful sunset. 2. Visit the USS Arizona National Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Be prepared for this emotional experience. There is no charge for admission to the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. However, you can rent headsets for about $5 and there are other historical sites that are non-profit entities that do charge admission fees. 3. Watch a Free Fireworks show. Every Friday night Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on a firework show which can be seen from Ala Moana to Diamond Head and beyond. Enjoy the spectacular fireworks while relaxing on the beach. 4. Check out the turtles at Turtle Beach. Located off of highway 83 between Haleiwa and Waimea Bay. They are protected species so be sure to give them their space and never touch one. 5. Snorkeling at the beach.

Check out Hanauma Bay, it is beautiful. Fish swim right up to you and before you know it you’re surrounded. There are many more snorkeling places but this is one of my favorites. 6. If you’re brave enough check out the Lava tube cave. It’s hidden from plain view but in the middle of Halona Beach. It’s a little hidden sercret on the beach. 7. The locals enjoy the swap meet and you can too. Located at the Aloha bowl stadium the swap meet is held on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Pick up your souvenirs here and save your money for other things. 8. Enjoy free movies at Sunset on the Beach at Waikiki. A 30 foot screen plays free movies every weekend. 9. Take a trip back in time and learn about the Hawaiian culture. Iolani palace offers free admission onto its ground. This royal palace is the only one in the United States and it was Hawaii’s capital until 1969. 10. Enjoy Haleiwa and the North shore. Home to some of the biggest waves and Banzai pipeline makes it worth the drive out that way. Sit back relax on the beach and watch the surfers ride enormous waves.
